MATAWHERO STOCK SALE.

7000 STORE SHEEP YARDED. PRICES STILL LOW. Low prices ruled again at the Matawhoro sale to-day, although there was certainly a better' demand for the store sheep, of which 7000 were yarded. In the fat sheep section there was less demand than usual, but as the majority of the sheep offered were light, prices were quite as good as vendors could expect. FAT CATTLE: There was a fairly small yarding of 13 head of fat cattle, all bring sold. Butchers were apparently eager to get hold of beef, and the at hole of the offering sold at very fair prices. , The best price of the day was paid for a dairy sort, in first class order, the bidding going to £5 15s. Four well-finished Polled Angus cows sold at £5 ss, while the remaining ' cows found buyers at prices ranging from £4 15s to £5. Prices were as follows:—! cow (dairy sort) £5 15s. 4 Polled Angus cows £5, 4 Hereford cows £5, 4 Polled Angus cows £5 ss, 4 Hereford' cows £4 15s.

FAT SHEEP. There was a fairly heavy yarding of fat sheep, comprising 325 head, for which there was a fair demand. Most of the lines were unfinished and there were few good lambs in the pens.. The best price for lambs was 15s lOd, which was paid for a fairly even line of 37. Other lots sold at from 14s 6d to 15s, but as most were obviously seconds, they brought full value. Two very good lines of 2-tooth wethers brought over £l, which, considering freezing prices, must be regarded l as full value. There was little competition for the fat ewes, and several lots were passed in, while one pen sold for 13s. Thetie were unfinishedl lines, however, the price being really as much as they were worth.

Prices were as follows :—3O lambs 14s lOd, 13 wethers (p) 19s, 22 2-th do., very good 20s lOd, 13 ewes (p) 14s 4d, 10 do. 13s 6d, 2 lambs 16s 2d, 13 ewes (p) 13s 3d, 22 2-th wethers 20s 7d, 50 2-th do. (p) 18s 6d, 55 2-th mixed sexes (p) 18s, 14 ewes 13s, 4 lambs 14s 7d, 18 d'o. 15s 3d, 37 do. 15s lOd, 11 lambs 14s 6d, 11 do. Iss 6d PIGS. ■ The yarding of pigs was bigger than has.been the case for some weeks, but there was very little demand, and the prices were low. Few farmers have sufficient feedi for pigs, and the prices have been going down steadily for some time past- Good stores made only 18s, while porkers made only 355. Prices were as follows 8 slips (p) ss, 2 porkers 355, 2 stores 14s 6d, 2 do. 10s, 4 do. good, 18s, 4 do. 15s, 7 weaners (p) ss, 3 stores 12s. 5 slips 6s 6d. STORE SHEEP. There was. a fair yarding of store sheep consisting of approximately 7000, these being offered to a. fair attendance of buyers. Bidding was fairly good but the prices were low, being much on a par with those received at last week’s sale. Dealers were operating fairly freely, and. secured some good lines of ewes, while several fanners from the high country made purchases. A lino of very fair sound'-mouthed ewes from the Hangaroa district made only 10s 3d, and this price was typical of the average lines yarded. Several pens of good wethers offered on account of Cooper’s Estate at Rere made good 1 prices, the best pen bringing 19s Id, the best price of the morning. These wero a fine wellwoolled and even lot of sheep in very fair condition. There were none of the very small prices for ewes which wero received last week, but this was probably partially due to the fact that the quality of the sheep yarded showed a very great improvement on those at the last sale.- t
