SECOND EDITION. WEEK-END BURGLARY.
«. _ more proceeds recovered. FOUND IN RESERVE. A further quantity of the jewellery stolen from the window of Messrs Spence and Co’s shop, in Gladstone road, was discovered yesterday afternoon in the Childers road reserve, it apparently having been thrown over the fence from the street. The discovery was made by somo young men who were playing football, the finding of one watch leading to a search, which revealed several of the missing watches, and somo gold lockets and pendants, tins, with that recovered immediately after the burglary, comprising the bulk of the stolen property. The total value of the articles still unrecovered is estimated at between £lO and £ls.
Judging by the condition of the articles found yesterday, they had only been in the Reserve for a short time, the cards to which they were affixed not being even slightly discolored by the weather, as would be expected had they been out in the heavy dews of the two preceding nights. In view of this circumstance, the polfce are satisfied' that the articles were not disposed of until yesterday, and the theory that- they were thrown over the fence is borne out by the fact that the glass faces of two of the watches were broken..
