AUSTRALIA’S STATE GOVERNORS.
ANOTHER LONDON ASPECT
THE MATTER, OF LOANS,
! (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.'. ! (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April 14. The Morning Post, states that. England has a- special interest, in the appointj nu-nt, of Governors of Australian States, '-which Australian agitators in favor oi local nominees overlook. Huge loans are floated in London, on advantageous terms through tho Trustee Act, and the renewals nro never questioned, w|ieiv;«; foreign lenders might (easily refuse to renew. except on onerous terms. English lenders are happy to lend at a, comparatively low rate to the British Dominions, where the King is represented by an English -Governor, but it is doubtful whether there would be tho same confidence in local men as Governors. Australia has supreme confidence in herself and her superiority is a healthy sign, but will lend to complications if overasserted. It is noteworthy that the Australian Labor Party has never used the referendum to test the question of Governors.
