News lias been received from Renton, Illinois, that a- lire is raging in a coal mine al West Frankfort, where an explosion occurred on Friday, trapping liftoen lo forty men. Hue is known to have been killed. Throe have been rescued. FIVE MEN KILLED. SAFETY .MEASURES SAVE 1100. (Reuter's Telegram.) (Received Januarv 30, 5 p.m.) NEW YORK. Jan. 29. Five men were killed in a. gas explosion in a eoal mine at West l 1 rankfort on Friday, but no tire broke out as reported. Safety measures, it. is believed, saved more than .11 CO miners from possible injury in the mine, which is ono of the largest, and most modern in too world. The damage suffered is negligible.
