LONDON, Doe.. 6.—The cruiser Chatham, the first cruiser of the Now Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, lias arrived at TJevonport, 'and lias completed what, will probably he her last, voyag? as a commissioned sliip. The Bffingii;irn has relieved her as flagship in Ihe liasfc Indies, njid! litw thus ended her active service career, for as soon as possible she will he paid off on to the sale list. Her sister-ships, the Dublin and Southampton, also share this fate. These were the three cruisers authorised' in Hie Nnvy Estimates in 1910. Tim ('hathum was built at Chatham dockyard between January, 1911, and December, 1912. her machinery being provided by Hie Thames Ironworks. She served in the' Mediterranean and Rod Sea. in the early part of the war, and was engagcdl in the operations against (ho Gentian cruiser Konigsberg in the Rilflgi River, East Africa. Later she was at the Dardanelles, and for a time was flagship ta Admiral Wevmss. She afterwards returned to the GrandJFlcct. and was flagship of Admiral Allen Hunt at the surrender of the German Fleet in November, 1918. In 1920 the Chatbam was commissioned for service in New Zealand.
