FIRE AT BLENHEIM.
(Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. Two shops in the business quarter of the town were totally destroyed by fire at 2.30 o'clock this morning. One shop was occupied by William Bateman, cydu dealer, and lhi> other by Mcrvyn Patehctt. confectioner. Both were practically burnt out before the alarm was Riven. The brigade made a remarkable save, of the adjoining buildings. The shops were owned by J. B. Raynef, and one was insured for £375, including plate glass and fixtures, and the other for £270. both in. the Phoenix. Bateman's stock was covered for £350 in the -Phoenix, and Patchett's stock was insured for £6OO in the Prudential. The adjoining shops are owned by S. Adams and Mrs. J. Hood and occupied by Mrs. M. Scollard and E. and J. Walton. Both arei ladies' outfitters and tiro stocks were slightly damaged, by smoke and water. Scollard's insurances ara not known. Walton's stock is insured for £3OO in the Sun Office. The damage is vary slight. The outbreak started in the rear of Patchett's shop. The origin is unknown.
