TERRIFIC EXPLOSION
THREE MEN KILLED
BODIES HURLED INTO AIR

An accident at Phillips’ st-one quarry, Bankstown, resulted in two men being killed outright, while another lias, died, and two others so severely injured Unit they will probably succumb. The son of the quarry-owner was ramming a charge when a terrific explosion occurred.
Claude Burton and Jack Thyman, both of Lidcombe, were blown fifty feet, in the air and their bodies horribly mutilated.
Allan Phillips, of Banksknvn, succumbed to his injuries an hour after admission to hospital. The injured are: Morgan Jones, of Cabramatta, and Arthur O’Brien, who arc suffering from broken limbs. Hardly a portion of their faces' is undamaged. Ambulance men describe the spectacle as the Worst ever seen. VICTIMS SHOCKINGLY MUTILATED. (Received November 27, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 27. The force of tho explosions in Banks-t-own quarry were so terrific that the, bodies of the victims were found 20 feet from the edge of the quarry. The explosion shifted 200 tons of stone, and the men. received the force of it-. The victims were shockingly mutilated. Two of those injured are not expected to recover. O’Brien has been identified as a resident of Lidcombe. The accident occurred a few minutes before work would have ended for the day. The opinion is that the men were ramming ■ home a charge of gelignite when the charge exploded.
