FRENCH HEROINE.
PARIS, Nov. 18.—Madamo Hoffmann, a fiO-year-old French streetsweeper in Metz, who was sentenced to six months' imprisonment during the war for refusing to sweep a street where the Kaiser was expected to walk, declaring at the same time, “The Kaiser is not worth as much as my broom,” is now the heroine of Lorraine. She had been awarded a medal in recognition of her courageous patriotism.
