MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED
WAR IN SYRIA

Advices from Beirut states that martial law has been proclaimed in the towns of Damascus, Sandjaks and Hainan owing to continued brigandage. It is officially explained that tho proclamation of marital law does not in any way denote an aggravation oi the situation: It has been proclaimed with a view to the rapid restoration of order.
