SEARCH FOR GOLD.
FIJI ALLUVIAL DEPOSITS
SUVA, Nov. 11.—There have been many reports about gold being found in the mountain streams of Fiji, and in some cases money has been spent in an effort to prove it payable. Some two years or more ago there was some excitement in connection with a find at Vanawai, but the search for gold was left to a few poor fossickers. Now. however, there is every appearance of a definite “strike” of alluvial gold. It lias been found in the Wnimann, near where Mr Renou for years maintained there were possibilities of good gold. Several parties have secured large areas for prospecting leases, and it will not be long before the Government will be faced with the need of declaring the district a “mining area” under the Ordinance, thus allowing persons to npplV for leases. The gold brought to town is fine and coarse flaky gold, and is considered to he a splendid Sample by men who are regarded as experts. 7he chief syndicate has sent to Australia for the services of an expert miner to take charge of their works.
