FARMERS CONSIDER QUESTION. If the fanners of the To Arnica district guarantee that 40,000 freight carouses will bo forthcoming for the Ilicks Buy freezing works this' season, the works will be opened about the middle of January, Unt if not they will remain closed 'for the season. The question was considered by a meeting of farmers tit To Arana 1 last Saturday. There was an attendance of between 50 and 60 farmers, the meeting being addressed bv Air. J. \\. Nolan, chairman of directors of the Gisborne Shoepfannors’ F.AI. and Al. Company. Don ling with the position of the works, Air. Nolan said that they had been erected on the supposition that the district could support them, but they bad been run at a heavy loss. Last year they had decided to open the works only on "condition that a guarantee of 40X00 freight carcases was forthcoming. This year they would require a similar guarantee. and it would bo necessary to arrange Ibis matter within a fortnight. The matter was fully discussed by those present, several of the speakers emphasising the benefits which accrued through the works being kept open. They realised that last season the opening of the works had been a boon, and decided that they should he opened again this year. Guarantees of 22,500 freight carcase's were forthcoming .in the room. Those present considered that the remainder of the guarantee would he forthcoming. If such proves to he the case, the works will open about the middle of January.
