A NARROW ESCAPE.

A three-roomed cottage in Harkton Avenue, Mount Albert, was destroyed by fire at two o’clock" this morning. Davis, the tenant, was' quarrying and wa,s living -near his work at Penrose. Tho occupants of the cottage, Mrs. Davis and eight young children, on waking, found escape by tho door impossible, but the mother tore the front wall, which was constructed of sacking, and made a hole largo enough to .permit all to escape in their nieht attire just- as the building collapsed. The neighbors took tho unfortunate family in for the rest of the night. , t
