UNHAPPY MEDIUMS.
FAIL IN TEST. NONE GOT THE COUNTERSIGN. NEW YORK, Nov. 17— Belief in the ability of certain gifted persons to communicate with departed spirits lias received a severe setback. The Scientific American, a New York weekly paper, has concluded one of the most definite tests ever made into so-called spiritualistic communications. A woman, who was deeply interested in the investigation, agreed on a secret countersign immediately before her death. She promised to give this countersign to any person who succeeded in establishing contact'with her spirit. Though 282 mediums were given the opportunity, none succeeded in getting the countersign.
