A REGRETTABLE FIRE.
WAtKAREMOANA bubii DESTROYED. (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. How it happened is not yet known, but the fact remains that a picturesque bit of secondary bush at Waiknremoana, not. far from the Outlet, just to the north-east of it, was burned on Monday. Its loss is much regretted by all lovers of scenery, especially in this historic region. This is not the first time the bush in this locality has suffered; for many ages ago the original bush was partly destroyed by a, gigantic landslide, ami in later years a small fire did further damage. The whole of the forest on the classic. Htiia-rap range was once swept by a bush lire. Since then bush has again grown, but it.can only be termed a secondary growth. A single generation would not suffice to produce the forest- giants of the Waikaremoana area’. T. have no. doubt the . area (small though it it) will be an eyesore for some time, but in a few years it, too, will be . rcclothed with secondary growths, and so the aesthetic eye will not. be offended. Enquiries as to the origin of this last fire will no doubt be made, but that will not re-clotho the shoulders of Waikarcmoaua hills—not for a long time at all. events,
