COLD SNAP.

STORM IN CANTERBURY. DAMAGE DONE BY LIGHTNING. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Canterbury is experiencing rough weather. After a few heavy showers during Wednesday night the weather broke fine this morning, but. about midday a thunderstorm was experienced and heavy rain fell. This soon ceased but the weather broke again at 4 o’clock, and became bitterly cold. Rain and hail poured down, and snow covered [he Cashmere anu the Peninsula hills. Twelve chains of telephone wire vanished completely. In ime house the telephone was damaged and the side of the wall blackened. Hail and snow io a depth of three inches covered the ground. Though rain was required throughout Canterbury it could have done without a wintry visitation. The temperature in Christchurch at: 5 p.m. v. as lIS degrees.
