THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
AUTHORITY for pamphlet. CONFLICTING STATEMENTS. (Pei Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The somewhat senastional statements made by Mr A. H. Vile, editor of the North. Otago Times, concerning a pamphlet lie. issued three years ago as Liberal-Labor organiser, were denied by Mr Forbes, who passed through Dunedin yesterday. Mr’Vile had stated that the pamphlet was approved by Mr Wilford in writing, and -Mr Veitcli led him to understand that the executive were delighted with its publication, yet when a°taember of the House, now a Minister. challenged the pamphlet Mr Milford repudiated it. stating that it- was unauthorised, and later wired Mr Vile stating that- ho war. coni polled to pursue that course because certain references to the wheal subsidy might jeopardise Mr Witty's seat. Messrs Forbes and Sidcy state that the pamphlet never was submitted to the executive, and when Mr Forbes read it they at once saw Mr Wilford, and informed him that it was unauthorised, and objected to it. Mr Wilford Said tiie pamphlet was unauthorised, and had wired Mr Vile that lie must eut out anything officially connecting the party with it. So far as he understood, Mr Vile issued the pamphlet on his own initiative.
