FARMERS BUSY PLANTING
V (‘The week-end rain has been worth thousands of' pounds to the farmers of the district," said a prominent sheepfarmer to-day, "and already its beneficial effects are apparent." There is no doubt that the rain will have a highly beneficial effect and even yesterday sonic farmers on the flats were hard at work preparing their land for cropping, which has been delayed this season. Farmers who were waiting for rain before planting out their maize, welcomed the downpour, and general activity was noticeable on the flats to-day. Around To (Karaka and in other parts of thj> district where rain had not been experienced. for some time, the fall will work, wonders to the pastures, and farmers will need to have no fear of a shortage.of feed for some, time to conic. If further rain follows in a Week's time, the whole countryside will Undergo a transformation and tile feed will be hurried along. The rainfall registered between 3 o'clock on .Saturday afternoon and 9 o’clock yesterday morning was 93 points.
