POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION

The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Football Association was held last evening, there being present: Messrs J. J. .McDonald (chairman), It. Johnson, P. Bailey, Hoare, A. Baker, P. Boots, E. Woodrow, F. Huberts, A. McMullen, Marlor, J. Hevritson, and Waugh. The secretary intimated that he had forwarded a letter of thanks to Mr G. Buseke for past services as chairman of ths Association.

A protest was received from the secretary of the Mercantile Club, the grounds of the protest'being that in last Saturday’s match betweeen Thistle and Mercantile, the Thistle Club played a man who it was alleged was registered on tho day of the match, and had not been registered for seven clear days with the 1'.8.F. Association.—The protest was held over till next Monday pending further information on the matter.

The report of Mr J. W. Parkin, the referee in the Gisgasco v. Gisborne United match, stated that the conduct of the players was exceptionally good, the result of the match being 3 goals to nil in favor of Gisgasco. A letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Football Association, stating that, the council considered that the fixture North v. South island should be an annual match, and asking for the names of the players Under the control of the P.B. Association who would bo eligible as regards status, and willing to travel and play in such a match. Tho players would bo required to pay their own travelling expenses, but would be entitled to receive a refund from the gate, the match to be played either in Christchurch or Wellington some time in September. — Players willing to make the trip are advised to hand in their names to the captain or secretary of his club as soon as possible. The letter further stated that there seemed to be some doubt in the minds of associations in regard to suspensions, and for their information the council had ruled that where a man is ordered off the field by a referee his suspension automatically commences, and he must not play again until his case has been heard by the local Association. The council recommended that 1 all cases of this nature be heard before the next playing Saturday. The registrations of L. Newman for Gisgasco and G. Graham for Thistle were accepted.—lt was decided that no unregistered player be allowed to participate in any league game. The resignation of Mr Roberts as secretary of the P.B.F.A. was received with regret, and Mr A. 11. Good was .appointed to the position. Tho report of the referee (Mr Baker) in tin- Poverty Bay v. s.s. Waiwera game stated that the match was played in a friendly spirit, the result being 4 goals to 2 in favor of Poverty Bay. For striking an opponent in the match between Thistle and Gisgasco on Saturday, August 1, a player was suspended for the rest of the season.

The draw for next- Saturday's games resulted as follows :

Gisgasco v. Mercantile, referee Mr J. Goleman, reserve referee Mr R. Leader, No. 1 ground. 2.30 p.m. Thistle v. United, referee Mr Craven, reserve referee Mr Miller, No. 2 ground, 2.30 p.m. 5? Foresters 15 v. Essex House, .referee Mr Woodrow, 1.15 p.m. Kaiti v. Foresters A., referee Mr McIntyre. reserve referee Mr Hoare. Mr. Hi. Johnson, as chairman of the smoke concert committee, intimated that the smoke concert held in honor of Mr J. G. Croaks had been a great success, and promised to submit a statement of the accounts to next meeting.
