SCHOOL FOR KOPUA.
The necessity for establishing a school at Kopua was brought under the notice of the Hon. J. G. ; Coates, recently, through tho offices of the Hon. A. T. Ngata. It was pbinted out that there were about 23 native children of school • ago growing up without education. The matter was taken up by a meeting of Maori residents, and it was decided to represent the position to the Minister of ; W,'. Native Affairs. It wp.vS also intirriated I’- to him that Mr Harvey, of tho Nativo Land Court, had 'undertaken to provide X a site for the school, accommodation for a teacher at Kopua Station, and a temporary school room. Two of the Maoris have also expressed their willingness to donato an acre each to provide a horse paddock for the school. The Hon. Mr Coates has replied,stating that the request would -eceive his immediate attention.
