WAIOURU-TOKAANU ROAD.
CUTS 80 MILES OFFROAD TO TAUPO AND ROTORUA.
An effort is being made by the Tnihap.e Chamber of Commerce' to reopen for traffic the Waiouru-Tokaanu road, which was used by the old coadh services. The Highways Committee reported as follows: , •
“We would recommend that the Wellington Chamber support the Tainape Chamber-of- Commerce in its efforts towards having greater attention paid to tlu* Wiiiouru-Tokaanu road, and we would suggest that the Taihape Chamber be asked wlrnt" measures they propose to take towards achieving improvements in tin's road. We might mention that by this road the overland journey to Auckland is shortened b v 80 miles, and it provides easy access to Taupo - and Rotorua from Wellington, and from a tourist and publicity point of view there' is everything to recommend in 1 the improvement of this route.” The .report was adopted.
