RAILWAY FINANCE.
INCREASE IN NET REVENUE
Returns of railway working from April 1 to May 23, 1925, show that there has been a'fairly substantial increase in net revenue as compared with the corresponding period last year. Results in these periods are compared in the following table: —

May 23,1925 £, £ A Revenue "... 972,736 ’ 1*143,986 Expenditure 753,248 887.612 Net Revenue 219,388 256,374 The capital cost of the railways in either island is upwards of twenty millions sterling, but of tlie net revenue of £256,374 earned in tlie current financial year [o May 23 the amount earned by the North Island lines was £160,561, as compared with £67,713 earned by the South Island* lines. The amount of net revenue earned under the heading of “miscellaneous” and by refreshment rooms and other subsidiary services throughout the Dominion was £29,100.
