ANGLO-CANADIAN SCHEME. HALIFAX, N.S., Jan. 6.-Major Hugh Green, representing Uie fishing industry of- Great Britain, has tokl the Fisheries Comniittoo of the Halifax Trade Board that lho interests he represents are willing to spend three million dollars in the development oE Nova yoctia fisheries; on condition that the Canadian Government provides shipping facilities and reasonable ocean rates on the Government merchant marine. Major Green pointed out that there had been a slump in British fisheries in the past three years through the change in the Gulf Stream. liis reason for speaking at Halifax was to acquaint fishermen with the proposal before meeting the Federal Government in Ottawa. The scheme outlined is to establish a fishing centre with three or four hundred vessels fishing from this port and a. steamer sailing daily for England with 3000 tons of fresh fish, while storage plants on this side' are proposed for the lower grade fish handled for the cheaper trade in Great Britain. Major Green mentioned that France and Italy were also in the market, for Nova Scotia, fish, and ■ intimated Ilial he was also empowered to encourage finds and meat shipment from Canada to Europe.
