WAIAPU RACING CLUB.

MEETING AT RUATOREA. SHOCESSFUI. FUNCTION. The annual meeting of the Waiapu Racing Club was bold in ideal weather, and with great success, on Saturday. The attendance was large. Enthusiasts came from all parts of the Coast to be present. A leal lire at. the grounds was the 1111 usually large number of cars from every pari of tho district. Visitors from Gisborne wore at Hie racecourse in exceptionally large numbers, and the keenest interest was taken in all events. During the morning and the early part of the afternoon the sky was cloudless, but towards the end of the meeting it became overcast and threatening. The rain held off, however, and the races were not interfered with. Tim Maliti racecourse at Ruatorea is excellently situated on tho bank ■of the Waiapu river, and, even in its present undeveloped state, is in ideal condition for race meetings. The (rack, on Saturday, was dry and fast, and some lino races were witnessed. The club had a capital judge in Mr. R. H. Wicksteed, whose verdicts wero ; fair and exact. Mr. 11. E. Bovydale j delayed the start, but went to the j front when the field finally got away, liming closely followed by Onianui and Chaplin in that order. At the southern bond Archie came up into third position. 011 the back stretch Chaplin passed Omamii, who dropped back to sixth position, while Archie fell back to the last. Chaplin assumed the lead and entered the straight first, with the rest of the field' in close attendance. Chaplin, Bevydale, Lieutenant Tongariro, and Kingi Pita fought it out down the straight. Chaplin passed the post first, with Bevydalo one and a half lengths behind, while Kingi Pita was third, a length behind Bevydnle. DISTRICT MAIDEN SCURRY, of 15 sovs, second horse 2 soys, from stake. Entering the straight Multimix t.u.re came up to third position and the order remained unchanged for the rest of the race, Oturaunui passing the post ton lengths ahead of Nukumaira, who was three lengths in front of Multi mixture. The field finally went away well, Kingi Pita going to the front, closely followed by Ginger Mick, with Georgette in third position. Kingi Pita was challenged by Georgette at the northern beud, but held his own, and passed the post half a length before Georgette, who was a length ahead of Heatlrorforiii. Uawa put up a great fight for third place, but came in a head behind Heathcrform. Time, I. 3-5.
