NAVAL CONFERENCE.

GREAT GATHERING AT SINGAPORE. AX IMPRESSIVE ENTRY. (Sydney Sun Cables.) (Received March 2. 11 a.m.) LONDON, March 1. The Sun’s special representative for the Naval Conference at Singapore reports that the harbor yesterday was bare except for mercantile fleet, but is now occupied by a line of sixteen grey warships gathered from all parts of the ocean. The ships cruised slowly, in order doubtless to make a dramatic entrance together. The town, which is tenanted by a large number of Chinese and Malays and normally gives the impression of being a Chinese town, overnight became a British settlement, crowded with officers and sailors. It was a scene of great bustle. The squadron remains for three weeks. The admirals are officially landing on Monday. The conference starts on Tuesday.

Extreme precautions will be taken to prevent any leakage of information. The meetings will be held aboard a warship. The Admiralty has taken great pains to warn the public Mf.lt the conference has nothing to do will) the question of tile Singapore base.
