EVENING MEETING

At the Childers road reserve to-mor-row, at 5.15 p.m., the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club will resume their evening meetings, which arc fast becoming a popular sporting function. The programme comprises a 440 yards flat handicap, 2-mile cycle event, and a shot-putting competition. Splendid Helds will contest .each event, and with all tile local champions taking part fast running and cycling should he witnessed.

The 440 yards handicap is one of Ihe most tryinjr of races, and as if cannot be classed: as a sprint, nor quite, a middle-distance event, the quarter always proves a most spectacular race to witness. The finish will doubtless he close, and Bindley, Martin, and Ingrain will probably receive the judge’s decision.

In the cycling event all the cracks will be competing, and in view of the close proximity of the Auckland provincial championships it is anticipated that fast time will he recorded, especially among the hack markers, who will be closelv watched by the selectors. In a well-handicapped field the probable place-getters may be Herbert, Douglas, or Swan.

Tlie shot-putting competition should prove interesting, nnd it is anticipated that I\ Turei’s put of 29ft when this event was last held: will be easily beaten.
