MANUTUKE MEMORIAL HALL.

’the first annual general meeting of the Maiiutuke Memorial llall Association (Ineorp.) was held last evening in the Te Arai school. Mr W. Sadler presided over a good attendance of members. The meeting, in adopting the annual report and balance-sheet, congratulated the president, Mr W. Sadler, his officers, and executive on the very fine work done since the inception of the association; also the ladies (under Mrs Preston’s leadership) for their untiring efforts.

In presenting the first annual report and balance-sheet, the committee had pleasure in stating that the association is in a sound financial position. After providing for the payment of the present building contract, viz., £1163, there still remains a. credit balance of £24 4s Id. The assets amount to £1268 4s Id, with liabilities nil. Memorial Hall :Mr F. Howard Forge, the assoeialion’s architect, has agreed to pay all accounts relative to contract, and has opened a trust account for this purpose. All progress payments arc paid to him direct, and your committee considers itself fortunate in having made this arrangement, as the association is doubly safeguarded thereby. Since the inauguration on tlie 9tii July, 1923, and subsequent meeting on ftlli November in the same year, when the association was formed and incorporation agreed to. shows a period of sixteen months to the end of the financial year. In this time the association raised £12,33 4s Id. Tenders were called, the contract let, and the hall is now in course of erectlion. The very tine support given by the settlers and residents of the' district to tho many functions held by I lie association lias undoubtedly assured this success. The committee wishes to place on record the untiring efforts of (he ladies since the inception. Their part throughout has been worthy ol the best; the work has been continuous and at times arduous. The committee wishes to tender its thanks and appreciation to all subscribers to the building fund, both hv donations and by gifts of stock, etc. During I lie past year committee meetings were, particularly well attended. In conclusion, the retiring committee wishes to thank the members for the support they have given, and trusts they will give the incoming committee every assistance in their power.

The election of officers and commit fee resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. Clark; president, Mr W. Sadler: vice presidents, Messrs W. W. Shanks, T, Preston, and E. P. Roberts; committee, Messrs E. McDowell, S. A. Kelly, A. J. Buckley. J. Kane, and A. F. Barber; lion, auditor, Mr C. A. Smith, A.P.A (N.Z.); lion, secretary, Mr F. Ik Pioivy ; lion, treasurer, Mr W. H. Jones.
