The Rev. James Moffatt has completed an eight years’ task of retranslating the Bible into topical English, the freedom whereof is likely to provoke world-wide controversy. Dr. Moffatt described Eden as ,a park. Noah’s Ark becomes a barge, with dimensions given in feet and inches. The replacement of obsolete idioms and metaphors of the Creation reads like a magazine story.
