MATAHINA TIMBER LAND.
THE DEAL CONFIRMED
The Native Land Board at Whakatane on Monday met to further consider matters in connection with the Matahina timber,, land deal, There had been opposition to the sale of the land on the part of a small section of the native owners who had spoken of having their land partitioned from the block. However other counsel prevailed and the deal as originally put, through some weeks ago at To Telco was confirmed without dissent, there being a large gatlieripg of natives present. This means that the Byrnes Company, of Ha were, have bad their offeit of £4 per acre for the land confirmed and the transaction is to bo finally completed by October Ist. The Matahina block, which lias been purchased by Messrs. Symes, consists of 9579 acres, so that the total purchase price amounts to £38,316. There: are 974 nalive owners concerned in the block.
