-MAKARAKA ROAI) RACE,
The annual Makaraka road race for the Lowe trophy was held under the auspices of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrior Club yesterday afternoon. There was a field of eight runners, and after a close race J. Fraser came first, J. Mercer second, and E. Hayes third. Time, 20min. 54secs. E. Hayes secured the fastest time, covering the course in 19rnin. llsecs. Mr. B. Lowe entertained the runners after the 'race, and substantial refreshments were provided. The president of the Club. Mr. H, F. Forster, heartily thanked Mr. Lowe on behalf of the Club for the donation of the trophy for the race, and also for the hospitable manner in which lie had entertained the minors after the race.
