IN THE SHALLOWS.
WAR LORD NEARLY lIIGII AND DRY, I*ooll, CHANCE OF RE,FLOATING. The schooner War Lord which, freighted with general cargo, went ashore at Opoutama, near Waikokopu, some time ago is, according to a report, received by the Secretary of the Marine Department, likely to remain beached for an indefinite period. ' The report received by the Secretary of the Marine Department states that there is very little chance of the schooner being refloated at. the: present time; .in fact, there is a. remote chance that she will never be refloated. The vessel appears to have drifted further inshore, and her hull has now settled down in the sand to a depth of about 4ft. There is only about 18 inches of water at spring tides on the seaward side pf the ship and practicably' aio; water on the landward side, so that the War Lord is almost, high and dry. The skipper and several of the crew are still standing by llie vessel and are at present engaged in dumping the balance of her cargo on the beach., When tiie whole of the freight has been discharged an attempt- will be made to hedge the vessel off.
