TRAINING NOTES. (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Tin/ weather conditions at Riccarton 'yesterday were very favorable for training operations. Silent King, Royal Star, and La Forte were companions in a school over four liurdlos. La Forte gave the other pair a start of three lengths, and he was still further back at the second hurdle, where Silent King drew out from Royal Star. ' Then La Forte commenced to move up, and lie just beat Silent King over the last- flight, Royal Star being a few lengths away. They all jumped well, La Forte pleasing most. C. W. Coleman gave his three jumpers strong pace work. Onkleigh seemed anxious to go on, while Silverton and Royal Fame both moved freely. Sir Roreberry was schooled over the hurdles by himself, covering two rounds and jumping eight hurdles. Ho went at a solid and even pace all the way, taking each obstacle fast and straight. It was a- really fine exhibition. R-. Longley’s two Grand National candidates were given strong pace work. Tigerland was spre after schooling at- the end of last week, but he seems all right again. Whipcord docs not look well, but- in spite of Ins appearance and his misoundriess he moved along fairly well. Lochella hit out free.y in useful work. He has.added to his Grand National chances as a result of his work since his arrival here. E. J. Ellis’s team, including Pamplona, Galway, Cassels, Adintor, and the Winter C'up candidate Ravenna, all got through useful tasks. They all look in good order. Lochsou was given strong pacing. He is in great buckle, and seemed anxious to improve- the pace. Wharfedale. an overnight- arrival from t.lui West •Coast, did steady pacing. Palencia is rapidly improving from (ho mishap he met with while schooling last week, and his trainer is hopeful of being able to start him in the Grand National Steeplechase. In addition to his Grand National engagements Callaway figures in the Enfield Steeplechase, and “Argus ’ in the Star, says that the- latter race will probably be- his mission on the- first day. Hiero was on the easy list for a few days as a result of a slight injury which he received when racing at Waimate last week. Ho is now all right again, and probably will be racing before the close of the . Grand National meet. San Fo-rte bowled along in good style in strong pace work. He lopks well. C'arawoek strode out freely at. a. sound pace. He looks in great fettle. Maunga got through useful work. There was no sign of a recurrence of the bleeding trouble which affected him after lie galloped the previous day. A. lot- of interest, attaches to the prospects of Income in the Grand National Hurdles. S’o far lie has; not competed over liurd'es, hu-t Percy Johnson, who trains him, lias had a lot of experience with jumpers, first a,s rider and. later as a, trainer. It- is therefore safe to conclude lie will lie well prepared for his big jumpin'!'' contract. H. Gray is- mentioned as; Iris probable pilot, which is another reason for liking Income), as apart- from Gray’s ability as a- horseman, it is unlikely he would take on a- rough rid© over burd.!ns with- so many opportunities- conning his way on- the- flat. Income's arrival at Riccarton is being anxiously awaited. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Solfa-nello and Snntonio were scratched tins morhing for all engagements at the Grand National meeting. /Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.l (Received July 31. 1 p.m.) LONDON. July 30.
