PREFERENTIAL TARIFF.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. Massey intends, when Parliament, meets, to- submit proposals to increase above the present rate of’ 25 per cent-, the proportion, of British manufacture in goods before- they may become, entitled, as far a-s New Zealand is concerned, to the preferential tariff. Mr. Massey says he is aware the existing rate had been decided 1 on as an. Empire policy, but there was no reason why New Zealand should not take a, lead in improving the position of British, manufacturers.
