ACCIDENT INSURANCE.
PROPOSED STATE MONOPOLY. (Per Press Association.) WELDING TON, this day. The president of the- Trades and Labor Council, Mr. J. Read, stated to-day that members oif it ho Council unanimously favored a State monopoly of workers’ accident insurance. Under a. Sitate monopoly there was no doubt, that cheaper premiums would rule, owing to the fact that there would 1 be less overhead charges than under the present system when private companion were competing for trade. If was also hold that trouble which sometimes arose at present with regard to workers securing compensation would not be so likely to arise if the State had a. monopoly o.f the business. It had been unanimously agreed by the Council that the general question of the Compensation for Accidents Act .should |ho referred to a Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Council Federation. The committee would go into the whole matter.
