ANNUAL MEETING
A SOCIAL GATHERING
The annua] meeting of members of the Accountants Students' Society was held in the Le Grand Lounge last evening, the business of the meeting being followed by a cabaret social. The president. Mr. (.'.■ Blackburn, occupied (he chair, there being a large attendance, which increased as the evening- progressed.
Officials for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron. Mr. J. S. Barton. S.M. : president, Mr. C. Blackburn ; vice-presidents, Messrs 0. A. Smith, li. T. Gardiner. M. J. White; committee. Messrs. 11. Taylor. A. 0. Ashbey. K. I.\ Williams, H. Eraser, and A. I'. Gardiner; lion, auditor, Mr. C. 11. Bull; bon. secretary and treasurer. Mr. Max Fry.
Referring to the past year, the chairman said the report showed there had been good attendances at all the committee' meet iugs. and it was the work of the committee which was responsible for the good position of the society, and the work done by it. The establishment of a library had been a great help, and in this connection they \vc\X' greatly indebted to the N.Z. Society and other donors. The society was indebted to the gentlemen who bad delivered well-considered and carefully thought out lectures. Local students had been most successful in examination, and within a few years he felt sure that the society would be a great help. He regretted the suggestion that Poverty Bay should cease to be represented on the N.Z. Council, as the direct link with Wellington was of great help. They were going to strenuously oppose the proposal at the annual meeting, and hoped to maintain representation. During the coming season a joint syllabus was to be set up by the society and the Bank Officers' Guild, and the combination should 1 prove most successful. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. It was decided that the night of meeting be changed from Monday to Wediies. day. it being considered that the hitter was more suitable to the majority. Several speakers |«iid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Mr. M. Fry. to whom great credit was given for the success attained by the society. A vote of thanks lo Mr. Fry was carried by acclamation.
At the conclusion of the business a very enjoyable lime was spent in dancing, interspersed with vocal and musical items. The programme was contributed to by Misses P. Cox, M. Goldsmith, and W. Parker, and Messrs Hichworth, R. Houlihan, W. McClure. K. B. Bullivant, F. Xeill. E. Cade, and Williams. Music for the dancing was provided bv the Olympic orchestra, while the duties of M.C. were capably filled by Mr Les. Albiecht. During (he evening a delect" able supper was served, and the following toasts \\fvc honored : "The Kinsr," "N.Z. Society of Accountants," ''Kindred Societies," and ''Lecturers."
