APPEAL FOB FREEDOM

PHILADELPHIA, April 23.—A jury comprising ten white men and two negrces is hearing the case in which Harry K. Thaw is seeking to regaiin his freedom alter many years in a menial hospital. Strange stories of Thaw's life in the institution were told. The lawyer representing the Thaw estate, who opposed Thaw's release, read records to the effect thai Thaw played with rabbits and hurled them in the air. He dso bit the rabbits and talked to them. Dr. Mills, a leading alienist, contended that despite Thaw's diversions he. was still sane. Famous figures at the previous Thaw trials were present to-day. Thaw has changed greatly. He is grey-haired and appeared to be agitated. He'greeted his mother, who is 82 years of age, with the greatest affection.
