HOUSES BURIED. SEVERAL FAMILIES SUCCUMB. [Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Dec. 31. The Daily Mail says that, serious and disastrous avalanches in the Swiss Alps are increasing daily. Every gust of warm wind following exceptionally heavy snowfalls starts fresh avalanches in unlikely spots. Several houses are buried, and whole families have succumbed. Rescue work is precarious. The avalanches are morei numerous than at any time in living memory. Train services ore interrupted, inconveniencing hundreds of tourists, mostly Anglo-Americans, attracted by the winter sports.
