NUHAKA SHOW.

A RECORD ATTENDANCE

WELL CONTESTED HORSE EVENTS.

(Special to tho Herald.) NTJHAKA, this day. The 20th annual agricultural and pastoral show was held yesterday on the very fine grounds belonging to the Nuhaka society, and the running of the function was distinctly creditable to the officials, and in particular to the energetic secretary, Mr. K. B. Crombie.

The grounds presented a very animated spectacle, and it is fortunate that the society has had the foresight to plant their natural grandstand with willows, thus providing shady retreat for all, in full view of the events. There was a

large attendance of the public, in fact tho committee consider that yesterday's function would prove a record in this respect. II h; estimated that close mpon 1000 people were on the grounds. All the horse classes were keenly contested, as also the competitions, but there has of late years been a distinct falling-olf in the interest shown in the cattle and sheep sections. Tin's, in a rising district such as Nuhaka, is to be reijretted, and it is to be hoped that there will he better entries in these sections in the future. Somo very good dahy cattle were shown. The competitions were very keenly contested by large fields, the big competition for hunters being won by Mr. A. J. Devery, on Straybird. There were a number of Gisborne competitors present at the meeting, one of them, Mr. A. Stevens, scoring a win.

The judges of the sheep sections said that, on the whole tho classes were fairly good, but in the fat sheep section the picking had been somewhat uneven, and the lambs shown were poor. The judges of tho various sections were : Draught horses, Mr. R. E. Jefferson: saddle horses, Mr. 11. Morice; harness horses, Mr. A. J. Devery; sheep, Mr. R. E. Jefferson ; fat sheep, Mr. W. J.
