COSMOPOLITAN CLUB.

PICNIC AT KAIRORO.

Tho fourth annual picnic of the Cosmopolitan Club was held yesterday at Kairoio, and. was largely attended by members, their wives, and children, to the number of six or seven hundred, .special arrangements had been made for tho transport of tho people to the picnic grounds, and throughout tho day there were constantly given evidences of excellent organisation. The main object of the committee was to provide a really enjoyable outing for the ladies and' the children, and at the end of the day it was unanimously held, that they had achieved tins object "with, honors."" The president (Mr. F. Collin) and secretarymanager (Mr. G. E. Aston) were the moving spirits, and were ably assisted by a large number of committee men, each of whom had their own duties. Prominent among these were Messrs. 0. H. Ambridge, 0. Batson (vice-president), and ,B. Wyles, all of whom work indofatigably on behalf of the women and children, Mr. Wyles conducting a stall from which soft drinks and ice cream were distributed among tho youngsters. There were innumerable events for the children, and every competitor received an award, so that there was little room for heartburning. The events arranged for the adults werei very earnestly contested, and the star event of the day was the tug-of-,war between teams skipped by T. Haisman and C. Batson. Haisman's team scored a win after a long and fatiguing pull.
