Tho Mt. Eden Borough Council has decided So dispense, with ’the: services of the borough engineer, Mr. J. Rogers, as from September 1 next; for having publicly criticised the Council. The Mayor, Mr. KayJl, said lie had definitely warned tho engineer that reports to the Council must first he submitted to him (the Mayor) before publication, as passages in previous reports, deleted in the Council’s copies, had subsequently appeared in the press. If the engineer was allowed to attack the Mayor, executive’and Council' in the ptess ail discipline would vanish. Several councillors thought the motion for dismissal of the engineer moved by the Mayor was too drastic. Mr. Rogers expressed regret that he had given cause for annoyance. The motion was carried by seven votes to five. .4
