RACE-NIGHT ATTRACTION
The matcb between Tom Heeney and O'Sullivan, of Auckland, suggested last week as an alternative to the CoghillHeney fight, lias been arranged, and will take place on Thursday, July 26th. The eagerness of both lighters to accept the offer of a match augurs well for a stirring fight between the two heavyweights, and patrons of the game will be equally eager to witness the first big iijjht staged locally for some time. The announcement that the negotiations bad been successful was made last evening, at a meeting of the Boxing Association executive. Ihe secretary stated that tho men bad agreed to meet on race night, for a purse of £l3O, including expenses. The advice was received with satisfaction, it being agreed that while O'Sullivan had still to prove his claim to championship' aspirations, his past performances entitled him to be considered as among the best heavyweights obtainable.
Tho fight will be tho piece-de-resist-ance of a good night's boxing. The preliminaries will be the finals of tho amateur championship tournament, the heats of which will bo decided on the previous evening at the Opera House. Tho nominations for the Gisborne amateur championships, in all classes from bantam to heavy-weight, will close on July 19th, with the secretary, Mill. Carr. The trophies will be of a substantial nature, usual to such classes of fights, and will includo a fine challenge cup for tho most scientific boxer in the tourney. Tho Gisborne Boxing Association conlomplates a series of fights in which tho foremost talent of the Dominion will appear. One of tho fights which arc definitely decided upon is a match between Jack Heeney, of Gisborne, and Eddie Parker, for tho middleweight championship.
