BOROUGH ENGINEERSHIP.
COMMITTEE'S REPORT.
In connection with the appointment of a successor to Mr. J. A. McDonald, as Borough engineer, the following report was laid before the Council last evening:— • Tho Mayor stated that tho meeting was called for the purpose of considering applications for the position of Borough engineer, and ho suggested that the applications be read through and then the Council could reduce tho list to say three or four, and they could be further considered at a later date. This was done and the applications were eventually reduced to four in number, and it was decided that the testimonials of these should be carefully gone throughXby each Councillor, prior to Monday next at 4 p.m., when another meeting would be held. The committee again met on July 9, when there wero again jn-esont the Mayor and all the Councillors. It was mentioned that the Councillors had been through the testimonials and the list was further reduced to three, when it was decided that they should be wired to, suggesting that they visit Gisborne on Friday next in ordor that the Council could have a personal interview, traveling expenses to bo paid by the- Council, after which a final selection can be made The report was adopted.
