BANKRUPTCY BAROMETER.
BAD TIMES INDICATED
{Special to tno Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Last year, judged! by the bankruptcy rct'iw'di in tho very large area covered by the Wellington district, was a worse period than 1921. The figures for tho twelve months ended 31st December last show there were 256 insolvencies'in Wellington district, which embraces Napier, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Dannevirke, Pahiatua, Alastertoii, Wellington, Blenheim, and. Nelson. This is almost double the number recorded in 1921, when 134 persons were obliged to file. In Wellington city 30 bankrupted occurred, as compared with 20 in the previous year. About one-fourth of the cases heard by assignees in the Wellington district in 1922 were in respect to farmers who had failed 1 . They were 63 in number, as against 20 in 1921. Twentytwo laborer*) filed, as compared with 19 in 1921. Taxi-drivers appear to have been tho hardest hit last year, for the number of insolvencies in that occupation has increased from four to ten.
