SYDNEY'S MOTOR 'BUSES.

REMARKABLE INCREASE.

SYDNEY, April 26.—At tho beginning of 3916 there were only 15 motor 'buses operating about Sydney, and their capacity averaged only 14 passengers per 'bus. To-day there are 330 'buses, operated by 122 proprietors, on 152 routes in the metropolitan area, and they have a seating capacity for 6442 passengers. One proprietor alone declares that ho has conveyed over a million passengers annually, and his wages bill runs into many thousands a year. The largest 'bus will seat 40 passengers, while the smallest now in' use seats 15. It is estimated that something like £300,000 is now invested in this business, the average cost of the 'buses being- more than £IOOO each. In fact, the largest, type of motor 'bn« now in use exceeds £I6OO. Only ono double-decker has so far made its appearance. So completely lias the motor 'bus linked np the different suburbs that, it is possible to travel by them a distance in a few minutes which formerly involved a roundabout, complicated journey of anything up to an hour.
