PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOOTBALL.
With the advent of colder weathetr tint schoolboy's attention turns to football and .the prospects of the various Irani.-, are eagerly* discussed'. The first matches in the local competition were played on L'ridlny afternoon, the keen air proving ideal for football. Six teams are taking pari, in the- senior competition and l Sevan in the junior competition, and the indications are for a very successful season. Matches will lie played' each Friday afternoon on Childers road' reserve and R.utene road reserve, commencing ai 2.45. The following are the results of the various games played:— 0 SENIOR COMPETITION.
Gishorne B won the toss from Te Hapara, and the latter, kicking off with the wind, kept their opponents well within their own territory. About- halfway through the! spell Te Hapara pushed Gisborne back on their line, and, Charles secured a. try, which was not converted'. Fairly even play followed till half-time. On changing over Te Hapara. had the better of play and" gave, the" other side many anxious moments. Eventually Kennedy crossed; the line, find Allot t goaled with a good' kick. No further scores were registered, and the game thus ended! in Te Hapara'ss favcr by 8 to nil. Manga pa pa (blue:) proved too strong for Convent (green), and d'.id most of the attacking. When play had been, in progress about; ku minutes a good l run by McKay opened the blue's scoring account. Shortly after Dalrymple nddedl a. second' try, while near the end; of the spell McKay again scored'. After halftime the wind aided. Convent and' made The game more even, but McKay and' Dalrymple added a try each for tho blues. No attempt could' he made at conversion, owing io the absence ol goal posts. Mangapapa thus won by 15 to nil.
On the Rutene road ground? a close game between Gisborne A and' Kaiti resulted' im a win for the; former by 6 to nil, Hacche and l MeLachlan scoring tries. JUNIOR COMPETITION.
An interesting game between Te Hapara and Mangapapa B ended' in a win for Te Hapara by 5 to nil, Crosby scoring a. try about halfway through the second spell. Mangapapa A had an easy win. over Gisbornrt B by 21 to nil. Tries were scored for the winners by Witters (3), Preston (2), Hall (1), and'Shute (1).
In the match between Gisbornc A .mid' Kaiti the latter scolod a try soon after the start. They could not maintain their advantage, however, and Gisbornc notchedl three tries, thus winning by 9to 3. i
