CORRESPONDENCE.
1 ■» (To tho Editor of:the Herald.) Sir, —R© the harbor question, I venture to submit for consideration the following: As the -Waikanae -beach must he dug out to provide for river diversion, why not make the harbor there, using the bed of the Waikanae river as the basin. Then, with the Turanganui blocked out by a wall, you will have aj harbor handy, and without interfering with our coastal trade while being built. The Waikanae river is negligible as a silt carrier, and could-be .diverted if necessary. The surrounding land is practically not built on, and. a combined wharf and breakwater between the Turanganui and Waikanae would allow Nelsons' lighters to ultimately load directly into, the Homo boats. If the breakwater was then broken down the present river would find an outlet on the Kaiti beach in the course of time.— I am, etc,,- i,--■ INTERESTED.
