FIRE AT ORMOND.

• A 14-roomed house at Ormond waa totally destroyed by fire shortly after 4 p.m. *y esterd ay- It was the residence of Mr G. Murray, and was situated about a mile and a-half from the township, on the main road towards Kaitaratahi. The origin of the.tire is unknown. Early in the afternoon, flames were discovered in a room at the rear of the residence, and were suppressed by Mr.. Murray, who had the assistance of some men ( who were working nearby. The owner of the property thereupon walked into the township to acquaint the insurance agency of the occurrence, and on his return towards his home, his attention was called by neighbors to a cloud of smoke arising' in the direction of his, house. He quickly covered the remaininn- distance to his house, and found it in"flames. Assistance was not lacking, but practically nothing could bo done to save the building. A piano and some articles of furniture were salvaged,, before the heat of the flames put a stop to the work, after which the structure burned- to the ground. The furniture was insured with the National '.lnsurance Company for £350, and the 'bouse for £1250 with the Atlas agency./ The loss to the owner is expected' .to 1 '■■ be heavy.
