MEAT GOING UP.
GOOD NEWS FOR FARMERS. RETAIL PRICES AFFECTED. Good news for one section of the community is not always welcome to another section of the people, but nobody will feel hurt because the farmer is to rcccivo a better price for his lambs (says the Napier Telegraph of Friday). During the last couple of weeks there has been an upward tendency in the price of lambs, and to-day a-substan-tial rise was reported, 7-Id per pound being offered for sorts suitable for the export trade. This has caused a flutter in other directions, and it is anticipated that slight rises will lie reported in other lines. With the indications of rises in wool prices the farmer is beginning to believe that there is a silver lining to the dark cloud after all. Prices for fat lambs at auction continue to improve (says a Christchurch paper). . At Geraldine over 2000 were sold, the great majority at over 20s, and a score of lots at 24s and upwards. Tho top price was 28s Id.
