DUNTROON STUDENTS.

EFFECT OF RETRENCHMENT. FOUR YEARS' 'TRAINING MAY BE WASTED. (Special to the Herald] WELLINGTON, this day. Eight New Zealandcrs, who graduated last year at Duntroon, have been informed that commissions cannot be given them in the Now Zealand army. There are only six overseas commissions for winch they may apply. This is part of the economy cainaign which it is understood the Department is under instructions to carry out. Although a large number of officers were retrenched last year, it is believed that there are still a large number to be retired in the near future. The need for retrenchment in these Deaprtments is such that these specially trained Duntroon students will have no chance of carrying on their profession in New Zealand, and the four years' training may be utterly wasted.
