The weather was fine and bright for the second day of the V.R.C. autumn meeting, and the going was good, Charlzil put up a great performance in the Elms Handicap, being last at half a mile, and coming with a great run. He is trained by a former jockey, S. Murphy, and was carrying a 101 b penalty. Is.i won the Ascot Vale Stakes brilliantly and ran the race in record time. Isa is the ninth winner of the race trained by Scobie. Antarian was beaten at half a mile, and Berribee jumped erratically in the Steeplechase, but won easily. In the Australian Cup, The Hover, although last to get away, by which he lost three lengths, had the race won a long way from home and scored rather easily, covering the distance half a second outside record time. Ulster Boy went to the front and led by two lengths from Democracy, Halida, The Rover, Amazonia, and Millieme, with Rexareus last. Ulster Hoy led into the straight from Democracy and The Rover. At a mile and a quarter the order \va3: Ulster Boy, Democracy, Halida, and Amazonia, and at the bridge, Ulster Boy, The Rover, Democracy, Amazonia, Rahda, Millieme, King of the Sea, and Clever Jim, with Seamada last. The Rover joined Ulster Boy at the half-mile and led into the straight from Ulster Boy and Demoeracy, winning by three lengths from Democracy, wiljli Clever Jim threequarters of a length away third, Amazonia two lengths fourth, and then Ulster Boy, Rahda, Paratoo, Accerington, Rexareus, King of the Sea, Mufti, and Wallnsh last. Millieme broke down at the home turn and Democracy finish■ed strongly. The Rover was trained at ! Bonny Vale, and is owned by John Wren. His stable was very confident, | hut ho was very factious at the post and was put on the outside. This is his second win, and he is engaged in the I Sydney Cup The favorite, Rostrum, was left at the ! post in the Bourke Handicap. Lisna- ' vane, ridden by Lewis, was always well up and won brilliantly in fast- time I Wyndham had the Junior Handicap won l at the distance. Wyndham cost £IOOO as a yearling.
