TURKISH DEMANDS. \ REGARDED AS PREPOSTEROUS. Elec. Tel Copyright— Untied Press Assn.* LONDON, Feb. 25. „ While admitting the magnitude of Greece’s burden under the Sevres Treaty, and doubting her capacity tip deal with the Nationalist movement, the newspapers regard the Turkish demands as preposterous if meant seriously. The Morning Post says : r ‘We respectfull v point out to our Turkish friends that Turkey did not win the war. Sir Edmund Allenby did not defeat the Turkish armies and their German mentors in order to talk of mutual reparation, nor after the blood and treasure expended in order to safeguard the ■Straits would British statesmen dare to place their guardianship again in uncertain hands.” The Daily Telegraph says' that Turkey. in the-tone of a victorious belligerent, fs reversing the Gladstonian policy, and requesting the Europeans to remove themselves out of Asia. Other newspapers doubt if France or Italy desire to restore Turkish rule in Christian countries.—A. and N.Z.C.A. (Received February 26, 845. a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 25. A communique states that the Turks were asked for their views on the proposal to create a commission to decide the fate of Smyrna and Thrace, whose decision should be accepted by Greece and Turkey. Tewfik deputed Sami to sneak on behalf of the delegation. Sami thanked the Supreme Council for admitting the claims of the Turkish delegation. Dir. Lloyd George intervened, remarking that no claims were admitted. Sami replied that the Turks were confident in the. justice of their claims. They regarded the creation of the commission as tantamount to their being admitted. The Turks were pressed to sav definitely whether on accepting the. Commission tlieyJ Would not raise other points than the questions of Armenia _ and Kurdistan. Sami obtained permission' to consult his colleagues before replying. M. The conference added a condition lo llic acceptance of the Smyrna-Thrace commission, that the’Turks and Greeks should immediately cease hostilities, with an exchange of prisoners.—A. and N.
